Band 7 model answer

It is often argued that whether creative artists should always have freedom of expression. Although creative expression depends on independence from political or social pressure, I believe that freedom should be broad, but it must coexist with legal and ethical limits.

A major reason is that artists often question traditions and make audiences see familiar issues differently. In practical terms, a painting or film can criticise injustice more powerfully than a formal report. This can lead to public debate and cultural renewal. In addition, creative freedom also supports innovation in literature, music, and cinema.

Nevertheless, the disadvantages should not be ignored. unlimited freedom can be used to promote hatred, deliberate misinformation, or exploitation. Another concern is that commercial shock value may be defended as art even when it damages real people. These problems may reduce the value of the policy or behaviour if no safeguards are provided.

For these reasons, I would argue that the limit should be harm, not discomfort. Societies should protect challenging art while restricting incitement and abuse.
