Writing Task 2 prompt

Nowadays many people complain that they have difficulties getting enough sleep. What problems can lack of sleep cause, and what can be done about it?

如今许多人抱怨睡眠不足。睡眠不足会造成什么问题?可以如何解决?

Band 8 model answer

The question of whether the difficulty many people have in getting enough sleep is widely debated in modern society. While sleep problems are partly personal, since habits around caffeine, screens, and exercise matter, I am convinced that they are also a structural problem in a culture of constant availability.

The most compelling reason is that sleep is essential for cognitive consolidation, emotional regulation, and physical repair. This matters because a tired employee may take longer to solve simple problems and still make more errors. Moreover, better sleep can therefore improve both wellbeing and economic performance. These effects can continue to influence individuals and communities beyond the immediate situation.

Admittedly, technology blurs the boundary between work, entertainment, and rest. Yet this weakness can be reduced if people create screen-free routines and institutions respect recovery time. Furthermore, a balanced approach would allow individual discipline to be supported by healthier expectations.

On balance, sleep shortage should be treated as a public health issue, not a private weakness. Provided that those rules are consistently enforced, this approach offers a stronger and more sustainable answer to the issue.
