Band 7 model answer

It is often argued that having the same retirement age for all workers. Although a common retirement age makes pension systems easier to manage, I believe that fairness requires more flexibility than one age can provide.

A major reason is that standard rules reduce confusion and can protect older workers from discrimination. In practical terms, without a clear age, employers might pressure expensive older staff to leave. This can lead to more predictable planning for workers and institutions. In addition, some professionals may also want to continue contributing beyond the official age.

Nevertheless, the disadvantages should not be ignored. manual workers, nurses, and drivers may face physical limits earlier than office workers. Another concern is that life expectancy and health differ across income groups. These problems may reduce the value of the policy or behaviour if no safeguards are provided.

For these reasons, I would argue that a fixed age should be a default, not a prison. Governments should allow early retirement for demanding work and later retirement for willing workers.
