As well as making money, businesses also have social responsibilities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

企业除了赚钱之外也有社会责任。你在多大程度上同意或反对?

Band 7 model answer

It is often argued that whether businesses have social responsibilities as well as profit goals. Although profit is necessary for survival, investment, and employment, I believe that profit cannot excuse harm to society.

A major reason is that companies rely on public infrastructure, educated workers, and consumer trust. In practical terms, a factory that pollutes a river saves money privately but imposes costs on everyone else. This can lead to public anger, health problems, and long-term damage. In addition, ethical behaviour can also strengthen brand loyalty.

Nevertheless, the disadvantages should not be ignored. some managers may claim social responsibility while using it only for marketing. Another concern is that small firms may struggle if expectations are vague or expensive. These problems may reduce the value of the policy or behaviour if no safeguards are provided.

For these reasons, I would argue that business responsibility should be practical and enforceable. Clear laws and transparent reporting can align profit with social value.
